Correcting Capsular Contracture

If you’ve had breast augmentation, and you’ve noticed that your implants have gradually begun to harden to the touch, you may be dealing with a complication known as capsular contracture. This is a fairly normal issue, but it can become quite painful if left unaddressed. If you think you might be experiencing capsular contracture, reach out to Dr. Hovsepian at his Beverly Hills office, and set up your consultation today. Dr. Hovsepian and his team have extensive experience correcting this problem, and he’s confident that he can restore your results, and your full quality of life along with them.

What Is Capsular Contracture?

The placement of a breast implant into your body causes your body to react the way it would to the presence of any foreign object: It encapsulates the implant in what is referred to as a “tissue capsule” that is similar in nature to scar tissue (though it’s not exactly the same).

While this is a normal part of your body’s healing response, some individuals have what can be called an overactive healing response. This can cause a contraction of these tissues, making the breast feel rigid and hard to the touch as the capsule tightens around the implant. This can distort its shape, as well, and can become quite painful in more severe cases.

How Does the Treatment Work?

In most cases, a capsular contracture correction procedure involves removing the contracted scar capsule, which releases its tightened hold over the implant. This allows your body to form a new, corrected tissue capsule. Sometimes pocket relocation will be performed in conjunction with the procedure, to prevent further complications.

During your consultation, Dr. Hovsepian will walk you through the full and complete details of your procedure, going over everything from the techniques he’ll employ, to your aftercare instructions and what you can expect during your recovery procedure. Our goal is to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable, every step of the way.
