Male breasts can be a source of embarrassment and discomfort for men; gynecomastia correction can achieve a flatter more masculine chest by reducing unwanted fat and excess glandular tissue that contribute to an enlarged male breast. Gynecomastia correction can also positively impact an individual’s psychosocial wellbeing. Each case is unique and is evaluated on an individual basis by Dr. Hovsepian.

The amount of fatty tissue in the male breast plays a critical role in determining the type of procedure Dr. Hovsepian performs to correct male chest enlargement. The primarily methods for treating male chest enlargement he employs is excision, Suction-Assisted Lipectomy (SAL), Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL), and Radio Frequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL).

Excision

When excising the excess breast tissue, a small incision is made about half the diameter of the areola. Excision is required with firm and glandular gynecomastia tissue and works great when there is a small and well-demarcated and circumscribed gynecomastia mass under the areola. When fat is spread throughout the chest, excision alone is insufficient and liposuction is required.

Suction-Assisted Lipectomy (SAL)

In SAL, tumescent fluid is injected into the area to be treated. Then a tiny incision is made in an inconspicuous place, and the fat layer is suctioned out. SAL effectively treats breasts that are composed of primarily fatty tissue.

Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL)

Dr. Hovsepian has special skill in the use of ultrasonic energy to help liquefy fat before it is removed from the body. This process offers smoother results and a more comfortable recovery than traditional techniques. UAL is effective for correction of significant breast hypertrophy including excessive fatty, fibrous, and glandular tissue.

Radio Frequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL)

Also known as (BodyTite™) is a minimally invasive fat lipolysis technique with additional tightening of connective tissue and skin. During the procedure one electrode which is also a liposuction cannula is inserted into the tissue and liquefies fat cells with radio-frequency. The liquefied fat is removed with suctioning. A second external electrode is applied to the skin surface; this skin electrode is much wider and the current between the two electrodes applies the energy to the intervening tissue to not only liquefy fat but heat connective tissue and skin to cause controlled contraction.

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia) Surgery

Before your procedure, Dr. Raffi Hovsepian and his highly trained aesthetic team will answer all your questions, and make sure you understand your procedure and recovery thoroughly. Safety, privacy, comfort, and excellence in treatment with trusting compassionate care are the benefits of Dr. Hovsepian’s patient experience.

Prior to your procedure you will need to begin fasting 8 hours before coming into the Beverly Hills surgical center, this means you cannot eat or drink anything at all during this period, including chewing gum or drinking water. If you have been instructed by Dr. Hovsepian to take any medications in the morning, this is permitted with a few sips of water.

Male breast reduction (gynecomastia) surgery is performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will be completely asleep and feel nothing during surgery. The surgery takes a few hours, although you should expect to spend extra time in the operating room if your procedure will focus on multiple areas. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but some patients prefer an overnight stay. Out-of-town patients may stay in a near-by hotel or aftercare facility, where a "private duty" nurse is available if required. Afterward, you will return to your home, hotel or aftercare facility conveniently located a short distance from the surgical center.
