What is facial liposuction?
Facial liposuction also called submental liposuction; this procedure can remove unwanted fat from under the chin and neck. It can help contour your chin and neck by banishing a double chin. Liposuction surgery has now become the most commonly performed procedure in Plastic Surgery. This procedure can change the look of your face; usually others will just think that you have just lost a few pounds. Dr. Hovsepian performs the most modern liposculpture techniques, which are both a scientific procedure and an artistic one, incorporating a concern for the patient’s well being and health before, during and after surgery with a genuine artistic sculpting of tissues.
Are you a candidate for facial liposuction?
If you are thinking about having facial liposuction discuss you goals with Dr. Hovsepian and he will help you choose the combination of procedures that will give you the look you desire. It is important to realize that liposuction is not a method of weight reduction in itself, as relatively little weight of fat is removed from the body when the surgery is performed safely. The procedure is designed specifically to improve facial or body contour. Therefore, it is important for you to be at or close to your ideal weight.
How is facial liposuction performed?
When Dr. Hovsepian performs facial liposuction the procedure varies between 30-45 minutes. Facial liposuction can be performed in an outpatient surgery center under light sedation and local anesthesia. Incisions for the procedure are generally very tiny and are placed in inconspicuous skin folds with minimal or no shaving of hair. The incision will be about 2 centimeters long and under your chin.
The Results
Facial liposuction results can sometimes be seen almost immediately after the procedure, but the final liposuction results take longer to appear. Most of Dr. Hovsepian’s patients notice significant liposuction results within a month. Each patient heals differently following liposuction, and it is difficult to predict in any one person how fast the liposuction results will appear. How fast your liposuction results appear is also site-dependent. The areas higher on the body (neck/chin, chest) usually show liposuction results much more quickly. Always keep in mind that your final liposuction results may not be seen until 6-12 months after the liposuction procedure.
What are the risks of liposuction?
Facial liposuction risks are much lower than larger scale liposuction. Dr. Hovsepian will provide you with instructions how to minimize any risk or complications. As you look to choose a plastic surgeon, be mindful that Dr. Hovsepian will remain just as engaged, concerned and caring about your results after surgery has been completed, as he was prior to surgery and during the surgical procedure. Not only is he a perfectionist with his surgical technique, but also his commitment to his patient’s satisfaction extends way beyond the day of surgery. The most common liposuction risks are bruising and inflammation, and numbness. Which usually subside within a couple of weeks.
What is the recovery process for facial liposuction?
The first few days are the period during which any pain, swelling and bruising appear to be at their maximum. A facial compression garment is recommended to wear at home and while sleeping. Between week one and week two, it is not uncommon to feel somewhat fatigued. You will generally be able to begin resumption of your normal activities in a few weeks. Patients are back to work in 3-6 days.
